Notes from Outer Island’s bushwalking journal: There we were, walking along a trail on the beach when we turned a corner and came face to face with a pelican basking in the sun, drying off from an afternoon spent fishing. It was a bright day and the colours of rockpools and blue water swirled against the bright white feathers of this large and stunning waterbird. As we watched the pelican preen and dry off, it felt like time stood still. We took a seat on a nearby rock and observed the beauty and serenity of the landscape, a warm sun mixed with a cool breeze. This moment was sublime.
