Swainsona formosa Sturt’s Desert Pea by Beverly Allen

Sturt’s Desert Pea (Fabaceae) is endemic to arid inland Australia, thriving where annual rainfall is 125–250mm. Flowering from July to March, it has several distinct colour forms. It is South Australia's state flower and widely admired. This specimen was grown by East Coast Wildflowers.

Beverly Allen won the 2023 Shirley Sherwood Award for Botanica Art – awarded to an artist who has made a significant and broad contribution to the field of contemporary botanical art.
