Melinda Edstein, Sydney-based botanical artist, trained in veterinary science before completing the SBA Diploma in London with Distinction. Specialising in coloured pencil, her RHS 2022 entry received a Silver Gilt Medal.

Anigozanthos rufus Kangaroo Paw from Melinda’s “Red Flowering, Bird Pollinated Plants of Australia” collection. Many native species are bird-pollinated, with red flowers especially attractive to honeyeaters, whose extra colour receptors make them efficient pollinators.
