Notes from Outer Island’s bushwalking journal: At first we think our eyes are playing tricks on us - small shapes darting every which way on the patch of green by the coast. We pause and carefully focus our attention on the area. Being stationary brings more and more shapes out of hiding. They’re wrens and they’re bopping everywhere, hopping on and off branches, a mix of bright blues and browns. One especially colourful blue bird hops over to my foot. It’s feathers are so bright they’re practically neon. We marvel at nature, known infamously for its grandiosity, but this time it displays only sweetness.
